This is the first in a series of photographs showing the beautiful bougainvillea which grows in abundance in the whitewashed cobbled streets of Skiathos Town, in Greece which has been my second home for many years. I am continually in awe of the striking colours on the island, depicted perfectly here by the hot pink and tradtional blue of the Taverna chairs.

Even having fallen to the ground, the pink of the bougainvillea bracts hold their intensity of colour – a perfect complement to the blue of the taverna chair. This was another photograph taken on the Greek island of Skiathos, in preparation for a series of paintings showing the natural beauty of this tiny Greek paradise

One morning I awoke really early and in the still silence, broken only by the sound of waves lapping the shore and cocks crowing in the valley below, I climbed up onto the roof terrace to watch the dawn breaking. The sky was so incredibly beautiful I wanted to grab my paints and brushes and capture the moment but I thought if I painted what I saw, no-one would ever believe me – so I reached for my camera instead…..
