CATch me if you can!

Another event I’ve attended recently was the last winter fund-raising evening on behalf of the Skiathos Cat Welfare Society (SCWS), organized by its founder Sharon Hewing Elliott-Winterburn.

Skiathos has a growing stray cat population that urgently needs addressing and Sharon and her team work tirelessly at attempting to control its increase by the most humane and effective means possible i.e. by catching and sterilising as many strays as possible. The society is organizing a team of vets to visit and neuter, hopefully, more than 100 stray and bin cats, between April 20th – 24th

Would you like to help?

In order to reach their target and cover the expenses of the visiting vets, the society relies solely on both donations from cat-lovers worldwide and assistance from anyone locally who befriends and feeds strays.

If you live in Skiathos, they are requesting that as many cats as possible, male or female, be caught and brought to the vets for neutering on those days, by appointment only (venues, appointment times and dates will be released soon). This can be done by luring them into trap cages with food as gently and carefully as possible so neither cats, nor their catchers, come to any harm. The society has 3 trap cages at their disposal and more can be borrowed from the local dog shelter, but cats can be lured into any cat boxes, or similar, available.

If you are not in Skiathos but would like to support this worthy cause, your sponsorship of one (or more!) street cats, at only 3 euros per cat – a snip! (excuse the pun!) is kindly requested.  All sponsors (unless otherwise requested) will be included in Sharon’s ‘Catch Me if you Can’ street cat album which will be posted at various locations in Skiathos and on both the society’s web site:

http://www.skiathos-cats.org/

and Face Book Page:

where donations can also be made and further information (including notifications of forthcoming fundraising events, such as the annual Spring Fete which will be held at the Liminaki Taverna in Skiathos town) is available.

Alternatively, Sharon can be contacted directly at: sharon@skiathos-cats.org

Please join me in supporting this worthy cause – all donations, however small, will be most gratefully received.
